Allergy shots
By admin
Allergy shots have been around for more than a hundred years and are approved by the FDA in the United States. Allergy shots or ‘immunotherapy’ is a series of injections containing the allergens that the individual is sensitive too. The body produces infection-fighting antibodies to fight these allergens (‘treating the injections much like vaccines’) and as a result the allergic response to the allergens diminishes by about 80 to 90 %. Allergy shots have found to be successful and this treatment aims at treating the underlying cause of the allergy unlike the over the counter medications that suppress the allergic symptoms. When the body fails to respond to conventional medication, allergy shots can be the next option.
Food allergy test is not very conclusive in some cases in ascertaining the food allergens. In some cases, it is a cut and dried case, but in most the results are quite ambiguous. Food allergy diagnosis consists of the ‘PRICK’ tests, the ‘RAST’ tests or the food elimination diet the food elimination diet is a simple procedure where the suspected allergen causing food is eliminated gradually. If any food substance causes allergy rashes, then that particular food can be avoided
